Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • 1 whole egg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 whole onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup ketchup (for glaze)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for glaze)
  • 1 tsp mustard (optional, for glaze)

    Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a small sheet pan or grease a loaf pan.

    Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, salt, and pepper gently until just combined — don’t overwork.

    Shape into a loaf on the pan (or press into the loaf pan).

    Stir ketchup with brown sugar and mustard if using; spread over the top.

    Bake 50–60 minutes until cooked through (about 160°F in the center). Rest 10 minutes before slicing.
